If you do manage to power your way through the rookie season, your reward is being released from your contract. Apparently the team owner can't stand "Freq" having one slightly unsavoury friend, despite his apparent status as a guaranteed future superstar. In the off-season, you enter free agency and negotiate a deal with a new team. Then you find out Vic's been killed in a car crash - but not before writing an emotional letter to "Freq" beforehand. How convenient. But players hoping for an entirely fresh start in their sophomore year are set to be disappointed. Announcers and analysts constantly refer to your "difficult" rookie season. Worst of all, you're still referred to as "Freq". Apparently there's a way to turn this off - a feature buried somewhere in the options - but this is never made clear by the game itself.
