NBA 2K17: Bad And Ugly Contracts On Every NBA Team
17. Los Angeles Lakers
The Bad: None
The Ugly: Luol Deng 4 years / $72M; Timofey Mozgov 4 years / $64M
These two deals are just plain awful as both players can be acquired for a third of what the Lakers signed them for. Mozgov is a solid defender, good for blocks and rebounds, and Deng is a good all-around player, but with D'Angelo Russell's contract ending in three seasons and bound for a solid extension, these deals may either limit your chances of surrounding him with other good players that would convince him to stay with the Lakers or prevent you from compensating him enough for his services.
It's puzzling why the Lakers signed an aging forward and a reserve center for so much money in the first place, but when taking steady development into consideration, these deals seem almost criminal.
Since the team's objective is to consistently improve, it would be better to just save the money for the upcoming free agency.
