The fact that NBA Live 18 is targeted at a specific audience, which can be characterized more as sports fans in general than strictly basketball fans, also pertains to the people you'll encounter online. This hugely impacts the fun that's a key part of the gameplay associated with The One.
During online games you must be prepared to fight for every touch with "me first!" players who only care about progressing their players and not winning games. That means you'll see a lot of ill-advised, contested shots for three that too often result in terrible misses or holding onto the ball until the clock runs out instead of passing to a better-positioned teammate.
