Nintendo NX: 11 Leaked Details You're Not Supposed To Know
4. A Return To Cartridges?
Cartridges would be the ultimate love-letter to old Nintendo fans, and could be enough to sway many back to the games that formed their 90s childhood. N64 and Gameboy cartridges needed a little bit of encouragement (and considerable dust-blowing) to work, but they'll forever be remembered as classic consoles.
Of course, new cartridges would be completely reliable and could be condensed into far smaller packages. A patent filed in February 2015 by Nintendo suggests that they are dropping the optical drive from a potential console, though a 'memory card slot' is included. Flash storage is growing internally, while the exterior shrinks, and it's becoming cheaper, while disks come with limits unless companies are willing to increase the surface area. Cartridges or cards could be a fantastic forward-thinking move from Nintendo, while it would also hark back to their glorious roots.
