Nintendo NX: 9 New Rumours You Need To Know
2. An App Market Is Coming
As you might be aware, Nintendo recently released its first ever mobile app in the form of Miitomo. Miitomo is a free-to-use social networking service that combines the “Mii” avatar as well as elements of the 3DS game Tomodachi Life. The app is conversational in nature, allowing users to answer various questions, see their friend's answers to questions and then to make comment. There's also a clothes market and mini-games which promote in-app purchases.
Miitomo might be Nintendo's first app, but they've confirmed they're working on a bunch more. The nature of these apps is a bit more obscure, though it's likely Miitomo was a way for the company to the test the market's waters – they wouldn't have wanted to risk releasing a game involving one of their flagship franchises if they didn't know it would be successful.
So what does all this mean for the NX? Well, the rumour is that Nintendo will be attempting to some serious cross-market promotion, boosting and utilizing both platforms. After all, if there's something the company knows well following the Wii, it's that the casual and “hardcore” market are often entirely distinct. Expect to see an app market on the NX, then, and for various mobile apps to have benefits for connecting to the NX.
