Nintendo NX: 9 Things It Needs To Avoid Another Wii U Failure
4. Virtual Reality
With virtual reality yet to make its full-on retail debut, its mass-market appeal still remains something of a mystery. But as someone who got to experience the VR offerings in store from Sony and Valve/HTC, I'm convinced that this revolutionary technology is going to play a significant role in the future of gaming (and visual media in general). Of course, at this point it'd be going too far to say that the NX should revolve primarily around virtual reality, but having the feature present on some level will go a long way towards showing the world that Nintendo is right there on the cutting edge of video game technology with the best of 'em, rather than in the same weird nether region that the Wii U existed in. For the foreseeable future, VR will remain a tasty side-dish to mainstream gaming rather than the main course, but it'd do wonders for Nintendo from a PR point of view if they show an interest in this area, rather than pursuing yet another quirky gimmick that may or may not work. Also, business side of things aside, isn't the idea of flying round Mario's Galaxy or galloping across Hyrule Field in full VR the stuff that every gamer's dreams are made of?
