Nintendo Switch: 10 Awesome Games With Overdue Sequels

6. Splatoon 2

Splatoon 3
Nintendo

Splatoon is one of the most interesting Nintendo franchises. Speaking with a smidge of hyperbole, it's not often Nintendo reveals brand new in-house game franchsies; it tends to iterate on existing ones and has done for decades. As such, it came as quite a surprise when Splatoon was revealed at E3 2014.

Not only was a new IP surprising, but one that was a competitive third-person shooter? Who could have predicted that? Of course, Splatoon is unlike any other shooter on the market, in true Nintendo fashion. The game was very well-received despite having very little in the way of a single-player mode, but its fun gameplay proved that there was something there.

Splatoon 2 aimed to improve upon the original in just about every way and that's exactly what it did. Despite being seen as a relatively niche title, Splatoon 2 actually sold over eight million copies, which is more than Halo 5. And with Splatoon's Summer Splatfest coming to an end in July, it seems the team is fully moving on to development on something new.

A sequel to Splatoon 2 is inevitable. The series is popular enough to warrant it and, with some more iteration, could be another big hit on Switch.
