Nintendo Switch: 10 Awesome Games With Overdue Sequels

4. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

Splatoon 3
Ubisoft/Nintendo

The first Mario + Rabbids game was a shock to everyone. Not just because it was a partnership between Nintendo and Ubisoft, but also because it turned out to be a brilliant game.

For context, you have to remember that, during the Wii U generation, Nintendo had little to no relationship with third-party developers. Though to be fair, Ubisoft was one of the few that did continue to support Nintendo's system. It's also important to note that Nintendo doesn't often lend its properties out to anyone, let alone a massive western publisher like Ubisoft. And that's why a Ubisoft-developed Mario title was more than a little surprising.

Regardless, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle ended-up being a gem, with a surprisingly deep learning curve and difficulty spikes. It might look childish and not very challenging, but underneath the hood is a robust turn-based strategy game.

And there's so much room for a sequel that explores new areas, adds more in the story department, and expands upon the best parts of the original while ironing out the kinks. 10 months ago it was announced the game had sold over 2 million copies, which we can assume is around 3 million now, and thus a sequel seems inevitable.
