Nintendo Switch 2020 Wish List: 10 Things We Need To See
8. Nintendo Online Price Freeze
Let’s start with the positives - £17.99 a year for Nintendo Online is an incredibly good price. Yes, the connection might not always be the best, and the library of good online games isn’t exactly extensive, but these are things Nintendo will no doubt work on. The price is right - it’s a bargain.
The worry, then, is that this will not last forever. They’ve kept it low since the paywall came into place, but to say Nintendo are undercutting their rivals in terms of connectivity costs is an understatement. Online play is paramount to a lot of modern gamers, and money talks. The fear is that the day will come when Nintendo can’t resist squeezing a little more out of their loyal fanbase.
If they do decide to hike the price, it’ll hardly be a surprise, but in order to do so, they’ll need to justify it with some tweaks, and some new titles. A new Mario Kart, for example, with high quality online content, would soften the blow should that day ever come. Even then, though, the current service needs some serious improvements before we can swallow an increased price.
