Nintendo Switch Online: 10 More SNES Games It Desperately Needs

2. Chrono Trigger

We come to the final and arguably finest JRPG on this list, with applogies to anyone holding on for Super Mario RPG which deserves an honourable mention.

where Turtles in Time used time travel as an excuse to lend its beat ‘em up action some fun backdrops, Chrono Trigger uses a time travel dynamic to really impact on the story and gameplay, with your actions in each of three eras having an impact on the other two. This mechanic becomes the spine of the game’s engrossing story.

A clever battle system allows you to combine party member’s skills for new and impressive attacks. The game’s multiple endings, plethora of party members and implementation of New Game + lends itself to replayability.

Chrono Trigger was famously a collaborative effort, combining the creative minds behind the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy series.

It’s enough to make you wish games companies would work together more often. Like what if Nintendo and Sega, the titans behind Mario and Sonic came together and made a game? It could be the greatest 2D platformer of all time! Or, who knows, maybe a mascot heavy collection of Olympics themed mini games.
