A pleasant, if not surprising reveal this one. Splatoon 2 was shown off and it's good to hear we're not just getting a revamp or remaster of the Wii U original.

New features include maps and battle modes which weren't touched on in any particular detail but what was mentioned were the duel-wielding guns called "splat duelies". They don't just promise the ability to cover the stage with more ink but also give players the chance to rocket across the stage faster than previously possible before.

Players will be able to switch up their controllers no matter what their preference: JoyCons, Pro controller or the JoyCons held in the central dock. Most exciting was the announcement that Splatoon 2 will be playable as a local multiplayer game on one console using the JoyCons.

Elsewhere, new online events were promised as the original built up quite a following for its SplatFests.

Good stuff, Nintendo.
