The rumours were true after all!

Praise the gaming gods, because for the first time since the late 90s, a major console manufacturer is returning to using cartridges. And y'know what? It's the best thing to happen to gaming in years.

I'd wager you've already noticed the downside to having so much data lasered into a disc: The load times and installations, even the issues that come with them like dirt and dust over time meaning some games don't work years down the line.

Thankfully, cartridges solve all of that. You can say goodbye to installation times, for one, and as a solid, encased piece of kit, the game's data is nicely secure, rather than being susceptible to scratches.

It's another of Nintendo's tip of the hat to the old school, but there's something so warm n' fuzzy about knowing you'll have a video game library of cartridges once again. Who needs discs, anyway?
