The Lie: Spartan Locke knew something about the Master Chief. There was clearly a mystery on the part of what the Chief had done to warrant a manhunt in his name, and the pair were shown in a series of adverts squaring off against each other, leaving it up to the player to assumedly decide who was in the right.

The Reality: Nothing of the sort manifested in-game, save for one quick tussle between the pair after Chief demanded to be let go in pursuit of a wayward Cortana. Locke's entire mission centred around simply being asked to bring in the MC, who as far as the UNSC were concerned, was being insubordinate for this aforementioned reason.

That was it. No personal grievance, no picking apart "What really happened", no nothing. The "Hunt the Truth" campaign all factored into a setup that is literally nowhere to be seen in the final product.
