No Man's Sky: 15 Tips & Tricks The Game Doesn't Tell You
13. Fix And Upgrade Your Multi-Tool ASAP
The only piece of equipment you have on your lonely person at the start of No Man's Sky is your Multi-Tool, which is essential for analysing species, combat and mining resources - everything, really.
With that in mind, it's worth fixing up your multi-tool as quickly as possible. You'll need 25 Carbon to fix the Scanner, which points out resources and places of interest in a large vicinity around you. The Analysis Visor, meanwhile, takes 25 Iron to fix, after which you'll be able to zoom in and analyse flora and fauna, upload it to the big database in the sky, and earn units for your efforts.
As you explore planets, you'll find upgrade blueprints for your precious gizmo, usually in bases and shelters (they'll cost you 20 Carbon). The random cargo drops scattered around planets also tend to contain blueprints, just press L3 then look for the blue gear icon to find them (these icons will also lead you to ship and exosuit upgrades).
A problem you'll soon encounter is that the Multi-Tool you start out with only has five slots to fill, so you'll soon want to bag yourself a better one...
