No Man's Sky NEXT: 15 Tips & Tricks The Game Doesn't Tell You

3. Burrow Into Any Landmass To Escape Toxic Hazards

NO MANS SKY
Hello Games

Another trick from back at launch that really came into its own once the Survival mode was added, burrowing into the environment itself can routinely save you from even the most ferocious storms.

Done in this version of the game by acquiring a Terrain Manipulator (instead of just leaping into a cave or enclosed rock formation), aim your Manipulator straight at the ground or wall and hold the direction for a second or two. Quickly you'll make a clear tunnel that can be sat in, saving you from being wiped out completely.

Note: You'll have to burrow a good few feet into your surroundings for the effect to trigger, but you'll know because your suit will announce that "Weather effects are stabilising".

Lastly, as No Man's Sky tracks everything you do, making life-saving divots in the ground at marked intervals will let you cross great distances multiple times. Do this if you want to mine a number of high value resources on a weather-stricken planet, without the annoyance of recharging shields back home.
