Along with Ana and Reinhardt, Soldier: 76 was a member of the first generation of Overwatch. As such, many years since its founding, the character is now well into middle age. Strike-Commander Morrison shows him as a young buck, but it’s Night Ops: 76 which is the characters most exciting skin. As the name suggests, this transformation shows the grey-haired soldier on a night ops mission, bedecked in digital-camo with intimidating black and blue face paint. There’s something thrilling about seeing Soldier in such a dangerous and exciting situation which brings the skin to life.

His advanced age earned him the nickname “dad” amongst fans, prompting many memes which imagine him as the downtrodden father of the group. Blizzard picked up on this and created Grillmaster: 76, which gives the character a dad-appropriate outfit, complete with Hawaiian shirt, a sock/sandal combo and a dorky apron, even transforming his gun into what looks like a condiment dispenser.

Fun and tongue in cheek as Grillmaster is, it can’t quite top Night Ops as Soldier 76’s best skin, letting the more serious and formidable cosmetic take the top spot.
