Pokémon: 10 Craziest Evolution Methods The Games Made You Do

7. Balance Its Stats - Hitmontop

Hitmontop's evolution requirements are equal parts genius and taxing. Tyrogue evolves into Hitmontop when its attack and defense are exactly equal at level 20, meaning you'd have to be otherworldly lucky to evolve one without having preemptively balanced its stats out like precarious spinning dinner plates.

Mercifully, there are ways to even them out artificially with stat-boosting items, but these are incredibly rare - or otherwise incredibly expensive - meaning that you getting this particular Pokémon requires either item management or big Pokébucks, leaving you unlikely to get it without a whole lot of strategising.

Hitmontop is not the worst Pokémon to attain by far - as countless people who have one will tell you in the vaguely smug voice of someone who has actually caught them all. But it's a damn sight more difficult than just finding a fire stone, that's for sure.
