Pokémon: 10 Craziest Evolution Methods The Games Made You Do

8. Max The Beauty Stat (And Get Lucky) - Milotic

Milotic has long been one of the weirdest Pokémon to try to evolve. Though later generations would add a cop-out alternative method of evolution - that of trading a Feebas holding a Prism Scale - the original method is still the one most used to get the evolution, despite the fact it is infinitely trickier to do.

To turn the slightly shabby looking Feebas into its magnificent final form, players would need to max out its beauty stat - which is something that approximately three people had actually paid attention to in any great detail. In simple terms, a Feebas' beauty stat needs to be at 170 to evolve, which is the maximum amount the stat could reach. Unfortunately though, not all Feebas are created equal, as how much the beauty stat could be raised was based on the Pokémon's nature, which was randomly generated, meaning you could do literally everything right, and still not get your Feebas to evolve.

Though there were ways to 'cheat' the beauty system in later games by giving your Pokémon a haircut, this feels about as helpful as throwing a spelunking guide into a dark cave of lost travelers, leaving Milotic safely amongst the ranks of obscure and crazy Pokémon evolutions.
