Pokémon: 10 Dumbest Gameplay Features Of All Time
1. Mega Evolutions
While many would suggest that the single save file is the worst feature in Pokémon history, it simply has to be second to one ridiculous addition. Mega Evolutions were added in the sixth generation, and initially they looked like a pretty cool new feature. Well, they made some of the promotional art look good, anyway.
Mega Evolutions are once-per-battle changes that allow certain Pokémon to take on even stronger forms. They gain extra stat boosts and sometimes even change type, allowing them to turn the tide of battle and get a second wind if they're struggling. They're the equivalent of jacking some steroids into your Lucario or Charizard, and pretty much guarantee your next move will land a K/O if it's not woefully outmatched for type.
Mega Evolutions pretty much just look like an excuse for the developers to show us how they'd redesign certain Pokémon if they had the chance to, and in a lot of cases they do look pretty cool. Short of this they're superfluous and pandering. Sadly they look like they'll be continuing into Sun & Moon, but at least the addition of Alola Formes looks like a genuinely encouraging way of shaking up the old Pokédex!
