Pokémon: 10 Dumbest Gameplay Features Of All Time

9. Roller Skates

In Pokémon's earliest days players had two options for general transport: walk or take the bicycle in certain areas. In Generation Three this was expanded to add a very useful middle ground as players were given a pair of running shoes for a medium pace. With flying Pokémon able to offer a fast travel option, it seemed that everything was set.

That was until an extra option was added in the sixth generation. Players in Pokémon X & Y were given a pair of skates in addition to the running shoes, with the control of this making use of the 3DS' small analog stick.

Sounds great, right? Wrong.

The roller skates add nothing to the games and serve to expose the fiddly nature of the 3DS' additional control method. Controlling the skating avatar in anything other than long, straight lines are frustrating and cornering often leads to colliding with walls or bumping into other trainers unexpectedly.

It was admirable for the developers to try to include another speedy travel option, but this one does not inspire.
