Pokémon: 10 Dumbest Gameplay Features Of All Time
8. Mirage Spots
When players in Pokémon's first generation games approached Cerulean Cave and came face to face with the iconic Mewtwo, it was abundantly clear what a Legendary Pokémon was supposed to represent. The ensuing battle with Mewtwo and the thrill at defeating or capturing it was mesmerising, and one of the greatest early memories for the series.
Sadly, most subsequent Legendary Pokémon have failed to capture the same aura, thanks in large part to there being so many ways to catch pretty much all of them. In later generations more and more supposedly Legendary creatures are being added to the Pokédex, and there are numerous end-game mechanics that allow them to be encountered regardless of the region.
This idea hit new heights in the Ruby & Sapphire remakes, with Mirage Spots allowing players to encounter almost every Legendary Pokémon in the confines of the Hoenn region. The mystical awe that once surrounded a legend is all but gone these days, and features like Mirage Spots are the biggest contributing factor.
