Pokémon GO Gen 2: 9 New Tips & Tricks The Game Doesn't Tell You
7. Espeon And Umberon
One of the best insider tips from Gen 1 was the foolproof way to get the Eevee-lution of one's choice. Simply name your normal-type Eevee in accordance with a little easter egg from the anime, and gain control of the otherwise random evolution stage it would then go through. Rainer for Vaporeon, Pyro for Flareon, and Sparky for Jolteon.
Gen 2 introduces two new Pokémon to the Eevee family though, the Dark-type Umbreon and the Psychic-type Espeon - it also introduces the same tactic for getting the one of your choice. Sakura for Espeon, Tamao for Umbreon. The names, again, come from the Anime although this time they're taken from trainers, rather than the nicknames Pokémon themselves.
At the time of writing, there's currently some rumours that simply having buddied with your Eevee for some 10km and then evolving at a certain time of day will also allow you to influence which of the two you get. However, that's yet to be 100% verified. Trainers also report that the naming trick will only work once for each one. After that, it's up to the gods.
