Pokémon Presents: 5 Things We Learned

1. Pokemon Legends: Arceus Ushers In A New Era

Nintendo may not be perfect, but for every low they reach there is always a dizzying high to compensate.

In this case, the mild disappointment of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl was soon swept away on a tidal wave of euphoria as Pokemon Presents unveiled the most exciting Pokemon game in the franchise's 25-year existence.

The elevator pitch for Pokemon Legends: Arceus is that it's Pokemon meets Breath of the Wild. And much like Link's greatest adventure breathed new life into the Zelda series, Arceus looks set to revolutionize the way we play Pokemon.

Yes, the footage shown wasn't exactly top-notch (there were notable frame-rate judders, and the wild Pokemon's animation definitely needs a look at) but the very idea behind the game is enough to have even the most level-headed Pokemon fan salivating. A truly open-world Pokemon game has been the holy grail for many a year, and Nintendo are finally delivering it next year.

After a well-deserved celebration of Pokemon's past, Pokemon Presents finished with a stunning glimpse into the series' future that lit a fire in the hearts of everyone who's ever thrown a Pokeball in joy.
