Pokémon Sword & Shield: 10 Galarian Forms We Need To See
3. Lapras
Lapras is a beloved Pokémon; a bulky defender, rare enough to be coveted without being annoying, and playing a major part in the Pokémon anime. That said, it feels a little detached from its own Gen, being encountered so late. Freshening it up for Galar would be hugely popular and would give the designers a wide range of aesthetics.
Britain has many notable features, but historically was always known for its navy. Given that it’s a island nation with a relatively tiny population, it managed to conquer much of the world and hold the oceans during both world wars.
As a typically kid oriented game, Pokémon might avoid leaning on militaristic imagery too hard. Octillery and Remoraid have both been redesigned since their conception as tanks and guns after all. Giving Lapras a Steel typing alongside Water could still definitely work though, winking at the inspiration rather than going for it full throttle.
Lapras’ shell already looks like a mine anyway, so there’s a bit of a connection built in. Also, while it’s ostensibly an Ice Pokémon, Generation I blurred Water and Ice far too often, leading to Alolan Vulpix & Sandshrew, so a change would distinguish it from the others too.
