Pokémon Sword & Shield: 10 New Details You Need To Know
7. The Wild Area
Remember that area which might be the key to the wild Pokémon spawning? This is it.
The Wild Area is a new addition to Sword & Shield, where Pokémon will be freely wandering around. You’d think this would put paid to the idea that they’ll be visible on the rest of the map, but then the Direct doesn’t especially make that clear either.
We see desert regions, grassy patches, dark forests, sunny lakes and many more snapshots of Pokémon walking about freely in the Direct.
This suggests there’s three possibilities; the Wild Area is huge, there’s lots of Wild Areas, or some Pokémon will wander elsewhere.
The odds are decent that it’s a large area, possibly one not available until the end of the game, given that strong and rare Pokémon like Milotic and Tyranitar appear; the game isn’t going to just give you those after the third gym. In Tyranitar’s own game, it wasn’t even available until post-game.
It could of course just means there’s lots of them, with the better ones locked behind progression to let you experience the areas early without giving away the farm.
There’s something else quite special in the Wild Area as well...
