Pokémon Sword & Shield: 10 New Details You Need To Know
6. Max Raid Battles
With the massive success of Pokémon Go, Game Freak would have been daft not to incorporate some features from the mobile game into Sword & Shield. Let’s Go! mimicked the catching mechanics and the candy, and the heavy tie in to the app means the biggest fans bought Switches just for that.
After huge sales figures, Sword & Shield needed some Go features, but there was no way to mess with the tried and tested catches and wild battles which have been a staple in Pokémon since the start.
Had they picked the wrong thing though, it would have soured die hard fans who would be upset at Sword & Shield ‘selling out’ to spin off fans. As it is, Game Freak seem to have played a blinder.
Raid battles will be coming to Sword & Shield, and if you’re not sure what they are, in Go they involve multiple players teaming up to take down and catch strong or even Legendary Pokémon.
It’s Go’s most popular feature, and given the focus on battling and type match ups, also the closest to the main series. This all happens in the Wild Area, where you and three other trainers battle together.
