Predicting The Game Of The Year Shortlist For 2018

5. Super Smash Bros Ultimate

God Of War
Nintendo

Since the Switch released, the pressing question on everyone's mind has been when we'll receive a new Smash game. We've waited two years, but come December, we'll finally have access to Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Suffice to say (and non-surprisingly from Nintendo) it looks pretty damn great as well.

Amassing every character to ever feature in a Smash title (except poor, unsung Waluigi) as well as countless new fighters, Super Smash Bros Ultimate is the biggest, baddest and best looking of any of the franchise's releases so far. Everything the fans have asked for over the series' time on ice has been answered and it looks like this is going to be another big win for Nintendo's exclusive lineup as a result.

Naturally, the critics also seem to be expecting this. It's pretty much been unanimously praised through all previews that have been conducted on it, while Nintendo's willingness to show footage off to the community through numerous Directs mean that we feel more involved than ever.

It's hard to believe that Smash won't be one of the standout entries to end this year. It's Nintendo's big showstopper for 2018 and, if they're lucky, it'll be the second game of the year trophy they've taken in a row.
