Prey: 5 Reasons Why The Story Ultimately Fails
2. The Crew
Most of the crew are rather poorly written, one-dimensional characters.
Two that stand out are commander Walther Dahl and "imposter cook" Will Mitchell. The first one is ordered to kill you by your father, but he makes double sure when hearing out the order, which proves that he is a moral character, who still values duty above everything.
The second speaks with a Russian accent, which makes his name seem all the more strange. You're supposed to suspect him of something. One of your objectives is to kill him. In a sense this is a valid request, as he killed other members of the crew, yet the same can be said of Dahl, who you spare.
Yes, he is a pilot and can be useful, but still, he has also caused harm and killed crew members. If the lesson here is empathy, why does the simulation involve making the distinction between life and death based solely on one's usability, not faults?
