Pro Evolution Soccer 2020 Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
1. Defending Takes A Little Getting Used To

PES 2020's gameplay is spot on in so many respects, but defending definitely takes a lot of getting used to and can leave you looking very silly very quickly.
The game punishes mistakes in an instant and it can occasionally prove frustrating trying to navigate your own players in the six yard box, lest they collide with an opposition player and concede a penalty. Fouls are commonplace, and while aerial duels specifically are twice as exciting, defending on the whole is still fairly unpredictable.
That in itself might be the point, and it's a testament to the series' commitment to authenticity that one button can't solve all your problems. However, while everything moving up the pitch feels pristine and almost artful, defending is frequently hectic in its early stages.
