9. Ray Tracing Will Be A Major Feature
One of the biggest capabilities of the PS5, according to Mark Cerny, will be its implementation of ray tracing technology. Effectively the ability to shoot realistic beams of light through levels and have lighting react realistically when interacting with environments, this feature is common place in big-budget Hollywood movies and animation, but so far has been well beyond the reach of consoles and PC.
It's costly and hardware-intensive, but it does have some major benefits, especially when it comes to giving 3D environments more depth and making them more immersive.
An example Wired used was how this tech would make liquid even more realistic in games, something which developers have always struggled with getting to look right when contrasted with photo-realistic graphics.
