PS5: 10 Ways Sony Are Letting EVERYONE Down
7. Their Backwards Approach To Backwards Compatibility
Sony has been dinged for many years about their prehistoric approach to backwards compatibility, especially in light of Microsoft offering a comprehensive backwards compatibility program dating back to the original Xbox.
Sony haven't been nearly as amenable for their most loyal customers, though, with players instead being expected to re-purchase digital versions of classic games - if they're even available at all.
Even the library of classic PS1/PS2 games offered on the revamped PS+ is shockingly lackluster, clearly suggesting that Sony isn't particularly interested in preserving their own legacy content.
That Jim Ryan himself mocked the very notion of people playing decades-old games really says it all, honestly.
Hell, this disregard of the past is even seen in the recently released PSVR 2, which lacks compatibility with all PSVR 1 games out of the box, with only a scant number of developers seeing the benefit of updating their titles for the new hardware.
While Sony easily bests Microsoft in many areas, their archaic attitude towards prior generations is extremely disappointing, and in turn hands the Xbox ecosystem an easy win.
