Ranking 10 Best Video Games Of February 2016

Super. Hot. Super. Hot.

February isn't typically a hallmark month for gaming, though this past month did serve up its share of rock solid indie titles and even a few surprisingly effective AAA efforts. As usual, our entry requirements for this top 10 are that each game must score at least 70 on Metacritic and have at least 10 reviews under its belt, and in order to keep entries current, February 2016 must be their first month of major release: ports and remasters have now been excluded. But what about March, traditionally one of the more stacked months in the gaming calendar? The most awaited titles include Tom Clancy's The Division, Hitman: Intro Pack and Trackmania Turbo. Will any of them crack out top 10 next month? We'll have to wait and see. For now, though, it's time to check out the top games of February 2016...

10. Far Cry Primal

Metacritic Score: 75-79 The Verdict: Expectations weren't exactly high for this period Far Cry spin-off, but it's a surprisingly satisfying and diverse experience. The move away from guns towards less-ranged weapons changes the game significantly and introduces a greater sense of strategy, though at the same time, riding a sabre-toothed tiger into an enemy encampment to mete out bloody vengeance is very much its own reward. Far more than just Far Cry re-skinned, Ubisoft have put much more thought into Primal than they did Far Cry 4, and the result is an unexpectedly satisfying time: lengthy, dense, ultra-violent, and just weird enough. Considering all the negative pre-release hype, this one's pretty much a minor miracle. Did anyone honestly expect it to score more than 70?
