Ranking Every Game Of The Year Winner Since 2010

4. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011)

God Of War
Bethesda

Skyrim is one of the most loved games of all time. It’s been ported to pretty much every system going, and is rumoured to get a remaster released on the Tesco self scan checkout next Spring.

However, no one can deny that playing Skyrim is definitely a warts and all experience. Bugs are to Bethesda games what the banana is to the banana split. They’re a core part of the experience and even have their own charm, but they’re nobody’s favourite.

And let’s be honest, the graphics are okay at best. Yes, it’s one of the oldest winners here and was one of the most ambitious games ever when it released. It definitely deserved Game Of The Year. But when held up against God Of War, Dragon Age: Inquisition and a few games above it, it looks its age. Breath Of The Wild had a more timeless appeal thanks to Nintendo’s more cartoonish approach, but Skyrim went for realism.

Despite that, it’s such a rich experience that even after several playthroughs, you won’t have discovered it all. That approach was a clear influence on the bronze medalist too...
