Ranking Every Game Of The Year Winner Since 2010
2. Red Dead Redemption (2010)
Though it’s successor missed out to God Of War, the original Red Dead Redemption climbed above competition in the shape of Mass Effect 2, God Of War III, Call Of Duty: Black Ops and Halo: Reach. The field was so packed with quality, Fallout: New Vegas didn’t even make the cut.
Although it’s shorter than its sequel, it’s arguably cinematically richer. Riding into Mexico for the first time is an experience almost unrivalled for how subtly it draws you in. Many big budget TV shows and movies try and fail to recreate similar emotions.
There’s so much symbolism in the game too, with the rails carving their way through the Old West like the wheels of time chasing down their way of life. Similar to Skyrim, the graphics aren’t up to today’s standard but Red Dead Redemption does more with what it’s dealt. The landscapes are gorgeous, and character movement is far less wonky. Ever played Skyrim in third person?
Though the games on this years’ list tower over it graphically, Red Dead Redemption has still stood the test of time and is even spoken about as a game of the decade.
