Ranking Every Kingdom Hearts Game - From Worst To Best
5. Kingdom Hearts HD Dream Drop Distance
Dream Drop Distance introduces brand new Disney worlds, the ability to play as Riku and Flowmotion, all of which are fantastic additions to the series.
Unlike other previous handheld titles, Dream Drop Distance features almost all brand new worlds. The combat is lifted from Birth By Sleep but with the introduction of Riku, Dream Eaters and Flowmotion.
The ability to play as Riku remains as one of the highlights of the game. Although he does play similarly to Sora, Riku's combos and abilities separate the two. Dream Eaters act as companions throughout the game, but they don't really add that much. You often end up looking after them and it takes a lot of grinding to unlock any decent skills from them.
Finally, Dream Drop Distance also introduces Flowmotion. Flowmotion is a new movement system that allows both Sora and Riku to leap from buildings, propel themselves off of walls and grind anything rail shaped. Flowmotion opens up the worlds so much more and makes combat feel much faster than it did in Birth By Sleep.
The major downside to Dream Drop Distance is the story. Introducing time travel, several different versions of Xehanort and even more confusion regarding Sora's role leaves the plot of Dream Drop Distance muddled and unsatisfying The game also gets quite repetitive towards the end, suffering from the same problem as Birth By Sleep in that you have to replay the same missions over and over.
Despite several different flaws, Dream Drop Distance still remains an entertaining game. The ability to play as Riku and the introduction of Flowmotion do make the title stand out and for Kingdom Hearts fans, that will definitely be enough.
