Ranking Every Legend Of Zelda Game From Worst To Best

6. The Minish Cap

Zelda Best Feature
Nintendo

The Minish Cap took small-scale adventuring to a whole new level, seeing dinky Link shrink to minuscule proportions. Following on from their successful set of side-games on the Game Boy Color, Nintendo entrusted Capcom to produce another portable adventure in their long-running series, this time a flagship title for their new Game Boy Advance hardware. They delivered in mole mitts.

Since Navi, the Zelda series has struggled to find the right balance in a sidekick, the vast majority being irritating (Midna, Navi herself) or an outright hindrance (Fi). Minish Cap's Ezio gets it just right: like, Tatl, he's a mordant wisecrack, helping when necessary, but doing so in an appreciably entertaining manner. Unlike Tatl, he's a sort of hat duck. This automatically makes him the best accomplice in the history of the series.

The game's frivolity is not the only facet of its fun. The dungeons are delightfully designed, and the interstitial sections never feel overly padded, instead encouraging exploration, and crucially, enjoyment. There isn't praise big enough for this luscious lilliputian delight.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
