Ranking Every Legend Of Zelda Game From Worst To Best

8. Oracle Of Ages/Seasons

Zelda Best Feature
Nintendo

It's really quite unfair to bung Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons together as though they're one game, but hey ho, that's life. Despite outwardly appearing as two sides of the same coin, à la Pokémon Red and Blue, the Capcom developed Oracle games are two distinctly different, fully-realised adventures. And they're both terrific.

For anyone who loved Link's Awakening, being given two brand-new games in the same vein, at the same time, was nothing short of ecstasy. However, wonderful as they undoubtedly are, they never quite attain the dizzying heights of their predecessor.

The premises are fairly self-explanatory - in Ages, Link can travel through time, and in Seasons, well, you know the rest - but the execution provides originality which betrays the simplicity of their concepts. Seasons sometimes leans too heavily on combat, and for some reason it has a disturbing boxing kangaroo called Ricky (honest), meaning Ages just about gets the nod, but on the whole there's little to choose between this pair of compact classics.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
