Ranking Every Mario Kart From Worst To Best

7. Mario Kart DS (DS, 2005)

Mario Kart DS ushered in a new era of kart racing for Nintendo as it was the first ever Nintendo game to offer online multiplayer. The significance of this can't be understated: Nintendo had totally ignored the age of online gameplay brought in with the PlayStation 2 and Xbox on GameCube despite many of its games being perfect for multiplayer. With MK DS, Nintendo launched its now-offline service, the Nintendo wi-fi connection. But "snaking" reared its head: an exploit to give racers massive turbo boosts meant that races would be unwinnable if you were looking for a fair fight.

Offering full 3D graphics and new kart designs including a rather snazzy Formula 1 inspired car for main man Mario, the game was again positively received by critics and fans alike. Boasting a whopping eight cups to race through and great new tracks like Luigi's Mansion and Tick Tock Clock, there was plenty to keep fans going. The new Mission mode also offered challenges and boss races in a mashup between Gran Turismo and Diddy Kong Racing.

This game hits number seven on our list since, whilst it's another cracking entry in the series, it's now quite dated and sadly, the online features no longer work.
