When the Game Boy Advance was released in 2001, it needed quality titles and fast. Thankfully, Nintendo delivered this within months of launch with Mario Kart: Super Circuit. Boasting graphics that improved on the Super Nintendo version and blending in colourful backgrounds with models that were more like the 3D characters from Mario Kart 64, the game impressed critics. It even had weather effects for some courses for the first time.

Its new features included a portable-friendly Quick Run mode where players could set up a short race and change elements like the item drops. Also, it used a rally-style system where the screen flashed up arrows to show the severity of the upcoming corner. Players could opt-in to a four player race using just one cartridge and link cables and the game even included 5 cups plus the chance to play all tracks from the original Super Mario Kart.

This one hits number eight on our list as although it's a great game, quite astonishingly future portable versions of Mario Kart managed to improve on this already excellent release.
