4. Wrex
It should be no surprise that four ME1 squadmate make up the top 4; the characters received more development with each passing game. While Wrex never is the only one of the six to never permanently return to the squad, he does feature heavily in the heartbreaking mission which sees Mordin’s death, as well as being selectable in the Citadel DLC pack.
The big shame with Wrex is that he’s only really available for core players. Mass Effect was a great game but can’t beat ME2; very few games anywhere can. But if you skipped the first game and just played the final two, Wrex is nowhere to be seen. He can be killed in the first game (though you have to really screw up), and this is the default storyline if you don’t import a save.
The trilogy is so rich it deserves to be played start to finish though, so that can’t count against Wrex too harshly. He’s an inspirational leader for his people, embracing tradition while dragging them forward, is an absolute tank in battle and one of Shep’s closest allies.
He deserves his spot for his dialogue if nothing else. Wrex. Shepard.
