Ranking EVERY Xbox Game Studio From Worst To Best
13. InXile Entertainment
Recent Releases: Wasteland 3
Notable Games: Wasteland 2, Torment: Tides Of Numenera
In Development: Frostpoint VR: Proving Ground, unknown RPG project
Bought up by Xbox in 2018, inXile is made up of several key members from the highly regarded, but defunct, Interplay Entertainment.
They've been kicking around since 2004, coasting at failed blockbuster attempts (Hunted: The Demon's Forge) and quick and easy jobs-for-hire gigs (Super Stacker).
Kickstarter led to a major rejuvenation for them though, with proposed projects, Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides Of Numenera, hitting landmark high funding goals. This was due to the pitched return to the retro aesthetic of the isometric RPG genre - something it did in a divisive warts-and-all approach.
The recent Wasteland 3 was much more successful though, helped by a healthy dev budget from Xbox, they hit a great balance of the depth and freedom of the old-school RPG, while refining the experience successfully for a modern age.
They are currently experimenting in VR with Frostpoint, plus have two unannounced RPGs in early stages. While their track record is uneven, their Xbox accompanied the future looks to be very exciting indeed.
