Ranking October 2016's Video Games From Worst To Best
8. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Special Edition
A lesson in how to do a remaster properly, Bethesda touched up their 2011 masterpiece in all the right ways. Naturally the general graphical presentation has been overhauled, with many key areas now benefitting from increased draw-distance and re-rendered buildings, but everything from the frame rate to the integration of DLC add-ons has been seamlessly smoothed over.
And that's without mentioning the mods. Thanks to Sony imposing some ludicrous restrictions on PS4, that version is suffering quite a bit, but over on Xbox One and PC, five years' worth of fan-mods are now making their way to consoles, giving fans entire new 20 hour-plus campaigns that have been worked on by some of the most dedicated players in the world.
Skyrim's Special Edition is a wonderful trip back to Tamriel, but one that welcomes you with open arms before saying "Look how much we have to show you!"
It's damn-near magical, just how you remember it.
