6. Dragon Quest Builders

Dragon Quest Builders
Square Enix

Regardless of your age or tastes, everyone - at some point in life - loved playing with LEGO, or at least, the very idea of building things.

Minecraft translated this fascination with craft-able playspaces to the gaming realm, but there was always something missing: Purpose.

Developers Square Enix/Division 5 promptly saw the opportunity to build a Minecraft-like experience filled with quests, characters and one of the best universes in gaming, and it's another bonafide hit.

Dragon Quest Builders immediately hits you over the head with just how insanely polished it all is. Akira Toriyama's artwork once again makes everything from loot-filled caves to the animations of your fellow NPCs look memorable as hell, and once you start erecting villages and townships a single mound of dirt at a time, that sense of "Look what I've made!" on the other side is genuinely heartwarming.
