Ranking The Best Video Games Of January 2016

6. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen (PC)

Metacritic Score: 81 (PC) The Verdict: Almost three years after this enhanced version of the acclaimed action RPG arrived on PS3 and Xbox 360, it's finally out on PC, and what a delight it remains. The storyline may not be the most original, but the gameplay, in introducing the much-praised Pawn mechanics and tremendously satisfying combat, feels much more than a clone of any number of action RPGs that have come down the pike either before or since the original's release. Perhaps most impressive is how well the game has managed to age thanks to some rock-solid graphical upgrades. Sure, it's not going to give new titles much competition, but it's clear that sure effort has been put into making it an appealing prospect three years after the fact. The bosses are awesome, the game looks surprisingly good, and the combat manages to be both exciting and impactful all at the same time. It could certainly do more in the narrative department, but the gameplay anchors it just fine.
