Red Dead Redemption 2: 8 Reasons You Should Be Worried
6. The World Has Changed In 8 Years, But Has Rockstar?
Eight years is a long time in the world of video games. Spanning a whole generation, the landscape has changed since the original Red Dead Redemption hit shelves, and history has seen a lot of similarly big franchises return from long hiatuses only to realise they don't quite fit in as well as the they once did.
After taking seven years off, Fallout 4 released in 2015 building upon the same features and style of gameplay that made the previous title such a smash hit in 2008, but it felt immediately outdated. Banking on the popularity of the franchise and the audience to only want more of the same, the studio rested on its laurels and ended up with a game that sold well, but wasn't loved by its fanbase.
Unfortunately, Red Dead Redemption 2 could be going down the same route. The sequel is going to be a hit regardless, but if Rockstar are content to release a title that doesn't justify the long wait between games, it won't get a free pass from fans.
Players are happy to wait a long time for new additions to their favourite series', but they aren't so forgiving if the years in between feel like they've been wasted.
