Red Dead Redemption 2 Gameplay: 12 Hands-On Details You Need To Know
3. Hunting: Skinning Is Back, Your Horse Is A Mobile Inventory & More
Another major component of gameplay, hunting is back with a vengeance in RDR 2.
Now we won't just be blasting everything with gunfire and hoping for the best - Arthur Morgan has a nifty bow and arrow that he can use instead.
In from Far Cry is the idea of "clean" and "dirty" kills - basically whether you take down a creature with a nice arrow shot, or blast them to pieces with buckshot. The latter means the meat is worth less, though the former doesn't always guarantee a kill, and you'll have to close the distance for a final stab. Also in is Kingdom Come: Deliverance's "meat degradation" idea - where anything killed will slowly rot, so you'd better have a plan in mind for all those carcasses.
Additional game mechanics include whistling to separate creatures from packs, or to line your shots up better. All round, you can tell Rockstar acknowledge how much of RDR's endgame was comprised of hunting quests, and have fleshed it out accordingly.
