Red Dead Redemption 2: Ranking Every Town From Worst To Best
2. Saint Denis
Saint Denis is a marvel on many fronts.
From a technical standpoint, this metropolis is a masterpiece of game design. This is a living, breathing world, and absolutely nothing feels superfluous, unnecessary, or out of place.
Then, of course, there's the civilizational aspect. If we're looking at Saint Denis as a real city, it's a hub of culture, innovation, and economic prosperity. It's a melting pot of the highest order, and when you walk through the streets (or ride the trolleys) of Saint Denis, you forget that you're playing a Western game. The lawless, unrefined world outside seems to fade into nonexistence.
Yes, John, Arthur, and Dutch hate it, but they hate it for what it represents. Saint Denis is civilization. Saint Denis is progress. Saint Denis is the future. All of these things are completely antithetical to the lifestyle the gang is trying to live. It's a monument to the ideological and historical death of people like Dutch and his brethren.
As a player, you may get frustrated at just how insanely easy it is to get the city's police department swarming after you. That's fair, and it's obnoxious.
But let's be honest: Saint Denis isn't the most interesting city in the entirety of the Red Dead universe.
