Red Dead Redemption 3: 10 Predictions For The Story
4. The Golden Age Of Outlaws
On from the physical setting to the chronological setting.
It seems pretty likely that Red Dead Redemption 3 will follow the trajectory of the franchise thus far and go further back in time.
Here's the exciting thing about that: we'd be broaching a period that's - in essence - the golden age of criminal mischief in the American West. That's not to say that the 1870s to late 1880s were completely lawless, but it's when the West wasn't short on criminal outfits on the prowl.
By the time Red Dead Redemption 2 rolled around, there were really only a handful of notable gangs in New Austin, West Elizabeth, and New Hanover: the Van der Linde gang, the O'Driscolls, and the Del Lobos. Sure, there could've been more, but they were the big ones.
Even if there were others, RDR2 plopped us down in an era when the rapid growth of civilization had lawmen nipping at criminals' heels. It'd be very interesting to see an Old West that's absolutely lousy with outlaw gangs and lone wolf gunslingers, maybe with the occasional overzealous, draconian lawman there to give them a good fight.
