Red Dead Redemption 3: 10 Predictions For The Story
3. The Rise Of The Van Der Linde Gang
After the first Red Dead Redemption, we really had no reason to believe that the Van der Linde gang was NEARLY as interesting as it turned out to be.
We knew nothing about Arthur Morgan, Hosea Matthews, Lenny Summers, Charles Smith, and Sadie Adler. John didn't mention the war between the U.S. Army and the Wapiti, nor did he discuss Micah Bell's betrayal.
Rockstar managed to build all of that out of the vagueness of John's backstory. There's no reason to think that they can't do it again.
The gang's history leading up to the Blackwater Massacre is equally nebulous.
What were they like before the Pinkertons had them on the run? We saw how they handled themselves in an unfamiliar land (New Hanover and Lemoyne), but how did they operate on their home turf, where everyone presumably knew the name Van der Linde?
If Rockstar decides to give us a game centered around the Van der Linde crew once more, it'd be the coda of a magnificent trilogy told in reverse, starting with the final death of the Van der Linde gang, and ending with their rosy beginnings - a sort of meta commentary on our romanticized nostalgia for the Old West.
