Resident Evil 8 Wishlist: 10 Things We Want To See
4. No Obligatory 'Action' Finale
For 80% of Resident Evil 7 it looked as though Capcom had lived up to its promise of taking the series back to its survival horror roots - then the last couple of hours happened.
Throwing away the suspenseful horror focus that had made the game so interesting up until then, the final few hours of Resi 7 gave players access to a machine gun with hundreds of rounds of ammunition, countless explosives and plenty of healing items to let them breeze through enemies until the credits rolled.
The climax felt more like something out of the previous games than this new sequel, and going from tip-toeing around enemies with three bullets left in your magazine to blowing away everything you saw with unlimited ammo didn't come across as natural.
By now Capcom should know that the parts of Resident Evil 7 fans responded to the most were the early, atmospheric hours, and should be confident enough to not have to rely on obligatory explosive shooter sections to round out the sequel.
